Our Veterinarians

Cape Fear Animal Hospital's four veterinarians are here to provide you with quality medical care for your pets. Our doctors have a range of special interests, including orthopedic surgery, dentistry and internal medicine.

Dr. Lisa A. Jonas

Dr. Jonas graduated from the Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1983 and completed a Small Animal Internship at Louisiana State University in 1984. That same year she joined Cape Fear Animal Hospital. She proudly claims the label of “Army brat” and has been part of the Fayetteville-Fort Bragg community for over 40 years. Her major professional interests include orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. Outside of the hospital she enjoys the beach, hiking in the mountains and her pets, which include three dogs and multiple rescued cats.

Dr. Renee Wheeler

Dr. Wheeler, an Alabama native, is a 2008 graduate of the Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. She has worked with both small animals and horses and completed an internship at Neuse River Animal Hospital in 2009. She has been a member of the Cape Fear Animal Hospital team since August of 2009. She enjoys horseback riding, playing soccer and Auburn Football. Her pets include her three dogs Tuff, Sully and Bella, and two cats, Hobbes and Lucky.

Dr. Meredith Tart Garringer

Dr. Garringer graduated from the University of Georgia in 2006 with her Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Her professional interests include geriatric medicine, ophthalmology, and feline medicine. Dr. Garringer enjoys camping, horseback riding and fishing with her husband. Her furry children include two cats, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and a chinchilla.

Dr. Hope Lucas

Dr. Hope Lucas graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. She is a North Carolina native, born and raised in Wilson, North Carolina. She has vast experience in small animal medicine and surgery, including emergency medicine. Her practice experience has also included equine and farm animal medicine. She is passionate about trail riding, driving and showing her mules, Mavis and Texas Pete. She shares her mini farm with five dogs, multiple rescued cats, sheep, chickens and rabbits.
